Argentina's Manso (18,138 feet)

Where: Aconcagua group, Argentine Andes
When: January 2007
Partners: Rick Kent

From near Camp Nido, Mercedario is seen on the horizon

It's a pity that Manso is a mere shoulder of Aconcagua, for the views from the summit are unparalleled. Miles and miles of ancient rock and ages of ice stretch to the horizon in every direction.

Rick Kent and I climbed Manso together one day after a carry to our high camp at Nido de Condores (18,300 feet) on Aconcagua. With Manso so close, how could one pass up the opportunity to pass up a recognized 18er?
