Wheeler Peak is the crown jewel of stunning Great Basin National Park. With a wonderful trail going all the way to the summit from either of two 10,000-foot trailheads, it's a hike that everyone should try.
First hiking up Wheeler Peak around 2002, I immediately fell in the love with the high, alpine tundra and expansive views this giant offers. I returned a year later to make another climb of Wheeler, this time via its high neighbor, Jeff Davis Peak. A year after that, I returned to traverse over to Baker Peak (and back again) from Wheeler. A summit I'll never tire of.
